Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes at South by Southwest? Find out, get involved, and volunteer at South by Southwest Music, Film and Interactive Conferences and Festivals!SXSW is taking place March 7 - 16, 2008 right here in Austin, Texas. Volunteers must work a MINIMUM of 30 hours during that time, or they can work 4 nights during the Music Festival, March 12 - 16. Wristbands, film passes or conference badges can be earned, depending on the amount of time the volunteers work.The SXSW Volunteer Call will take place on Sunday, January 20, at the Hilton Hotel Downtown. New volunteers will be admitted between 2:30 and 5:30pm. Returning volunteers can arrive at 12:30pm. It will take approximately 45 minutes to complete the process, so if you plan to attend, you should arrive no later than 4:30pm. Read the volunteer website and create an online application before attending the call - http://sxsw.com/volunteer/. Help! The SXSW Interactive Festival needs a few ultra-organized, ultra-reliable volunteers to help coordinate hand-card distribution in several markets out of Austin. If you live in Boston, Seattle, Chicago, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Miami, Philadelphia, Detroit, Washington, or Houston and are interested in helping spread the good word about the event, please contact Lindsay. Depending on how many hours you put in on the distribution task, you can earn a FREE registration to the 2008 event.

I’m a long time SWSW Interactive attendee, and have been attending the SXSW Music for an embarrassing amount of time, I get excited every year around this time.
The past few months have especially been interesting for me, because I’m now crossing a picket line every day that will dictate how writers and other creative individuals will stand to profit from entertainment delivered via the Internet. The fact that SXSW Interactive continues to coordinate joint panels with SXSW Film this year also makes me happy and proves to me that at least folks in Austin get the future of entertainment.
